“I applied for accommodation renewal which took 3 months (while DLS kept threatening to close my case within a week if I didn’t provide additional paperwork from a doctor, even though the information I provided was sufficient and I was still on medical leave). I suspect renewing again in July will be a nightmare.”
“Can't apply for other roles or get promotions due to accommodation re-eval every time.”
“Nobody being held accountable on the Leave and Disability Team when delivering false information to unsuspecting individuals who don't know the processes.”
“Management prioritizes their safety metrics, instead of accurately reporting injuries that happen on-site.”
“Management discourages Amazon Associates from reporting an on-site injury in fear of 'it's too much paperwork' (yes, an actual quote).”
“Management not stepping in and acting callous when someone is actively struggling.”
“False and misleading job adverts listing remote locations but are actually not!”
“Job descriptions which do not list travel, but the travel requirement being added after accepting the job seemingly to disqualify the employee.”
“I've been terrified that my accommodation will be suddenly revoked at any time.”
“Many internal tools are not accessible to screen reader users, keyboard users, and users with neurodivergences, and when developers try to fix those tools they are told that there is no time on the roadmap for those improvements.”
“Many Amazonian procedures are very opaque, which makes it difficult for people with disabilities to navigate how they are supposed to follow the procedures, and what the final outcome will be if they do/don't follow the procedure.”
“Was placed on a frivolous PIP. falsely blamed for something and it was later confirmed it was not my fault. My manager told me 'they’ve been trying to write you up, but I wouldn’t do it.' When I was placed on the PIP, he said he had no choice, they made him.”
“Was threatened with termination when I took FMLA for my disability. I was told I didn't qualify for the leave (after I was approved for the leave, and came back to work).”
“Was denied FMLA because my grandma was not considered an 'immediate family member' even though I was my grandma's primary caregiver when she was diagnosed. Amazon denied my request for a medically necessary remote work accommodation, despite detailed documentation from my licensed provider. Instead, they imposed an inflexible 'ramp-back' plan requiring increasing in-office days, which directly contradicts my medical restrictions. This decision was issued without meaningful dialogue, individualized assessment, or explanation.”
“They did not address any questions after an accommodation request. In addition, my manager told me that he would never trust me again because I had filed for an accommodation and acted like I was extremely difficult and he expressed to me not to take an accommodation for optics purposes.”
“HR’s internal customer service is horrible and there is no passion to help the internal customers.”
“HR does not ‘Hire and Develop the Best,’ insist on the highest standards, earn trust, deliver results, have ownership, and doesn’t have customer obsession. If Amazon expects employees to embody these pillars, shouldn’t that extend to HR?”
“Everything I have gone through with accommodations has been difficult.”
“ DLS made me feel like I don't belong at Amazon because of my disability, and that only those with perfect health and mobility are welcome. That message was reiterated by VPs that have repeatedly told us to suck it up and align to 5 days in the office, or to find jobs elsewhere.”
DLS offered accommodations that are in direct opposition to the medical guidance of my doctor, who provided multiple rounds of documentation. DLS was unresponsive to me and my manager for 6 months, and there was no opportunity to speak to anyone or engage in conversation once DLS offered laughable solutions that put me at risk of serious bodily harm. They also repeatedly tried to close my case. They asked nonsensical questions and said my doctor had to answer them. I've had to disclose a lot of very personal medical information and in return I was treated with disrespect. DLS makes it clear that Amazon is unwilling to make room for those who are differently abled
